Motorcade Planned To Honor Former Everson Police Chief

EVERSON, Wash. -- A police motorcade is planned this morning in Everson and Nooksack to honor Everson's longstanding Police Chief Erik Ramstead, who died last Tuesday after battling a long illness.

Everson Mayor John Perry says chief Ramstead was one of Whatcom County's most active public servants.

Ramstead served one of the longest police chief tenures in Washington State.

He worked for the Everson Police department for 28 years, and had been chief since 1988.

The police procession will depart from Nooksack High School at 8 a.m. and head down Nooksack Avenue and Main Street in Everson.

Members of the community are invited to come out and line the streets to show their respect for Chief Ramstead and his family.

The procession will end with a public funeral starting at 10:30 at the church of the assumption in Bellingham.
