Bellingham Schools Urge Safety Talks Following Attempted Abduction

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Bellingham School District is reminding families to talk with their children about staying safe after another girl reported she was approached by a stranger this week.

The Whatcom Middle School student was walking home from school Wednesday near Carrington and Barkley Boulevard when a man drove up to her.

Officer Mark Young with Bellingham Police says that unlike Tuesday's case in which a man tried to lure a 10-year-old into a black van, investigators aren't treating this as an attempted abduction.

Anyone with information about either case is urged to call 911.

School officials say parents should take the opportunity to remind their children to always walk with a friend, and tell an adult immediately if they see something that makes them feel uncomfortable.
