Lynden, WA (KGMI) -- A horse and 20 calves were killed in a massive barn fire at a family farm near Lynden early yesterday morning.
The barn on Kamm Road just East of Lynden was already fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived just after 4 AM.
Lynden’s Assistant Fire Chief Robert Spinner says the burning barn was closely surrounded on three sides by other buildings.
More than two dozen firefighters from the Lynden Fire Department and North Whatcom Fire and Rescue were on the scene at one point as they struggled to contain the blaze.
Spinner says the barn was completely destroyed, but firefighters kept the fire from spreading to the other buildings.
No people were hurt in the fire.
The Whatcom County Fire Marshall says the fire was sparked by an electrical problem.
