State Senator Says GOP Takeover a Good Thing

Bellingham, WA (KGMI)  -- Republican State Senator Doug Ericksen from Ferndale is responding to Democrats’ criticism of the GOP takeover of the state senate.

Ericksen says the new republican majority in the senate will bring fresh life and solutions into Washington’s traditionally democrat controlled government.

He says control of the senate committees was fairly split between members of both parties.

Democratic State Senator Kevin Ranker recently said the new conservative majority would block important bills on social issues, and act against the core values of Washington voters.

Ericksen says the bipartisan majority coalition was formed so the state could focus on economic issues like balancing the budget.

The legislature convenes on Monday.
