NBA Meets With Kings Owner Ahead Of Possible Relocation Vote
(Dallas, TX) -- There's some intrigue before the NBA could decide whether to move the Sacramento Kings to Seattle. NBA commissioner David Stern was spotted talking to Kings owner George Maloof in the lobby of a Dallas hotel this morning. It's not known what was said, but it comes after today's meeting of the NBA Board of Governors was moved up an hour for an unknown reason. A vote could happen today on the Kings.

Future of Kings to be decided Today
(Dallas, TX) -- It's coming down to the wire for a final decision on where the Sacramento Kings will play next season. The NBA's Board of Governors is expected to render a decision today between the Seattle and Sacramento offers. Mayor Kevin Johnson was quoted as saying, "the Maloofs have not closed the door on making a deal" with the Sacramento group interested in keeping the team in town.

NBA reviews Sacramento investors bid, no decision expected soon
(Sacramento, CA) -- The NBA has reviewed Sacramento's bid to keep the Kings. The finance and relocation committees are looked over the offer Wednesday in New York. The committees will decide whether to approve the Maloof family's request to sell the team to a group of Seattle investors or accept Sacramento's counteroffer. Their recommendation will be forwarded to the full Board of Governors, which is made up of all 30 NBA team owners.
A decision is not expected this week. According to Twitter reports from the Seattle Times, NBA Commissioner David Stern says the earliest a decision may come is the first week of May. Another report has Stern saying the committee will meet again next week, either in person or via teleconference at which time it is likely to issue a recommendation.

Vote Delayed In Battle For Kings
(Sacramento, CA) -- The NBA Board of Governors is postponing their vote on who gets the Sacramento Kings. The "Sacramento Bee" says league officials did not give a reason for the delay. NBA Commissioner David Stern had previously said the decision may not come this week. Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson announced earlier today the bid from the Sacramento investors was ready to be presented to the league committees.

Hansen Approved For Kings Minority Share
(Sacramento, CA) -- It looks like Seattle investor Chris Hansen will own at least part of the Sacramento Kings. A bankruptcy judge has approved the sale of a seven-percent stake in the team. The shares were owned by former minority owner Bob Cook, who has filed for bankruptcy. The NBA Board of Governors must still approve the sale.

Sacramento Investors Submit Counter Offer For Kings
(Sacramento, CA) -- Mayor Kevin Johnson is calling it a proud day for Sacramento. According to the "Sacramento Bee," the not-so-secret major investment team of Mark Mastrov and Ron Burkle submitted a counter-offer to the NBA this morning to keep the Kings in town. Sources say the Mastrov-Burkle bid is competitive with the Seattle offer already on the table. The group will also partner with the owners of Sacramento's Downtown Plaza to build a new arena. The Maloof brothers have already accepted the Seattle offer to buy the team, but the NBA Board of Governors will make the final decision in April.

Kings Sale Announced, Application For Move To Seattle Coming
New York, NY (Sports Network)/ (Seattle, WA) -- NBA basketball fans in Seattle are celebrating confirmation this morning that the Sacramento Kings are being sold to a group headed by Seattle NBA arena-backer Chris Hansen and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. On his "SonicArena" Web site, www.SonicsArena.com, Hansen says they will apply to the NBA for permission to move the Kings to Seattle and rename them the SuperSonics, the name of the longtime Seattle franchise that moved to Oklahoma City. Sacramento's Mayor says on "Facebook" he's still fighting to keep the Kings.
The NBA will review the sale agreement of the
Sacramento Kings to an investor group that reportedly intends to relocate the
franchise to Seattle.
While the NBA confirmed that the Maloof brothers have reached an agreement
with a group headed by Christopher Hansen, there was no indication from the
league concerning multiple reports from Sunday that said the new ownership
group would move the franchise from California's capital to the Pacific
Northwest.
"The NBA received an executed Purchase and Sale Agreement for the transfer of
a controlling interest in the Sacramento Kings from the Maloof family to an
investor group led by Christopher Hansen," the NBA said in a statement. "The
proposed transaction is subject to the approval of the NBA Board of Governors
and has been referred to the Board's committee process for review."
Seattle has been without an NBA team since the SuperSonics left for Oklahoma
City following the 2007-08 campaign. The Sonics were an expansion franchise in
1967-68.
The Kings, meanwhile, have been in numerous cities since their inception in
1948-49. They began as the Rochester Royals until 1956-57, then stopped in
Cincinnati through 1971-72 before moving to the Midwest. They changed their
name to the KC-Omaha Kings before becoming the Kansas City Kings in 1975-76,
then moved to Sacramento for the start of the 1985-86 season.
Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson, a former NBA player, is reportedly seeking a
group to buy the Kings and keep them in Sacramento.
The Kings have been at odds with the city over a new building for the team. An
agreement to build a $391 million arena with the city council was announced
last February, but fell through just two months later.
