Officers in Whatcom County arrested 115 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign from November 21 through January 1.
David Wright, Target Zero manager for the Whatcom County Traffic Safety Task Force, says that's 19 fewer arrests than last year's holiday season campaign.
Statewide, law enforcement officers arrested 3,446 drivers for DUI. Here in Whatcom County, the Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden and Western Washington University Police departments, the County Sheriff’s office and the Washington State Patrol all participated in the extra DUI patrols, with help from the traffic safety task force.
The extra patrols were funded by a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
