High Schools Increase Security After Reported Weapons Threats

RENTON, Wash.  (Metro)  -- Officials say security is being stepped up at Hazen High School in Renton, even though a purported threat of weapons being brought to the school is not credible.

KIRO-TV reports conversations were overheard that said someone was going to bring weapons to the school, but the students who reportedly overheard the conversation couldn't identify the student who allegedly made the threat.

The Tacoma "News Tribune" reports security is also being enhanced at Peninsula and Harbor Ridge high schools in the Gig Harbor area, but the newspaper quotes Pierce County deputies as saying threats made concerning those schools appear to be unfounded.

Authorities say an unsubstantiated threat was also made about Kingston High School in Kitsap County, where there will also be an increased police presence.
