BBB Warns Of Scams Surrounding CT Tragedy

WHATCOM, Wash. -- The Better Business Bureau is warning people to watch out for fake charities that say they're collecting donations for families and victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.

David Guinlan with the BBB serving Western Washington says scammers are using email and social media sites like Facebook to prey on people's post tragedy compassion across the country.

He says local donors need to be wary of "new" charities with little background information, and avoid organizations that only take cash donations.

Also, don't fall for sensational news headlines or celebrity quotes tied to fundraising efforts that quickly go viral online.
