Safety Violation Blamed For Huge Cle Elum Wildfire

CLE ELUM, Wash.  (Metro)  -- The huge Taylor Bridge wildfire near Cle Elum was probably caused by contract workers who violated a state rule requiring a 1 p.m. shutdown of welding and power saws in dry weather.

The fire got away from the workers and eventually burned 23 thousand acres and destroyed 61 homes and some 200 other buildings.

Conway Construction of Ridgefield and Rainier Steel of Auburn are now being sued by the property owners.
