WA Senator Reacts To Connecticut Shooting

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Senator Maria Cantwell is calling Friday's school shooting in Connecticut "heartbreaking."

She released a statement saying "all Washingtonians, and all Americans grieve for the senseless loss of innocent lives and for the community of Newtown."

Bellingham School District superintendent Dr. Greg Baker says their thoughts are with the families and staff in the deadly school shooting that left 27 people dead, including 20 young children.

He posted a statement on the district's website Friday saying "I am sure we will all hug our children a little tighter today."

He linked to an online resource for talking with children about traumatic news or events.

Bellingham school students begin their winter break today.
