Police Arrest Suspect In Bellingham Kidnapping

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A Bellingham man has been arrested for kidnapping a woman in her car.

A police spokesman says officers were called to a suspected car prowl in the area of west Bakerview and Eliza at about 5 Tuesday night.

28-year-old James Craver was reported to be armed with a box cutter.

Witnesses told officers Craver forced his way into a woman’s vehicle and forced her to drive off.

Officers were able to contact the registered owner of the car, who gave them the woman’s cell phone number.

They were able to contact the woman and the suspect briefly before he disabled the phone.

The woman later contacted police and told them the assailant had gotten out of the car on Fraser Street, and she was alone and safe in the 1600 block of Iowa Street.

Craver was taken into custody without incident on Pacific Street in Bellingham Wednesday morning.

A corrections deputy recognized Craver walking on Pacific with two other men and knew he was wanted on kidnapping charges.
