Same-Sex Couples Begin Applying For Marriage Licenses This Week

WHATCOM, Wash. -- Starting this Thursday, one month after Washington voters approved Washington’s marriage equality law, same-sex couples in our state will be able to apply for marriage licenses for the first time ever.

Washington voters overwhelmingly approved referendum 74 on Election Day by a margin of 7.4 percent.

The Whatcom County Auditor's Office will have extended hours this Thursday through Saturday in preparation for local same-sex couples who would like to apply to get married.

The auditor's office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The first day to use the license will be December 9, after the mandatory three-day waiting period.
