Coal Terminal Scoping Meeting Tonight, Opponents Get Ready

FERNDALE, Wash. -- Opponents of the Gateway Pacific Terminal have been preparing for today's public meeting on the project in Ferndale.

Matt Krogh with Resources for Sustainable Communities, a group opposed to the project, says they have hosted dozens of grass-roots meetings for people who want to make sure officials will pay attention to their concerns..

He says the project developers have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars every month in their efforts to drum up support.

Today's meeting will help officials determine the scope of the upcoming environmental impact assessment of the proposed coal shipping terminal at Cherry Point.

The meeting is in Ferndale today from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Ferndale Events Center.

People can comment on the project online through January 21 at www.eisgatewaypacificwa.gov.
