Swinomish Man Pleads Guilty To Murder Of Wife

SWINOMISH, Wash. -- A Swinomish tribal member has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing his common-law wife at the home they shared on the Lummi Reservation.

Fifty-five-year-old Kevin O’Leary admitted in court yesterday that he smothered Valerie Jefferson, a Lummi Tribal member, on June 7 after an argument about an affair that O'Leary had over a decade ago.

Emily Langlie with the U.S. Attorney's Office says O'Leary then wrapped his wife's body in a blanket and hid it under the bed.

Police discovered Jefferson’s body five days later.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend a sentence of up to 15 years in prison when O’Leary is sentenced on March 8.
