Coal Terminal Proponents Deliver 10,000 Signatures

WHATCOM, Wash. -- A group of local business and labor leaders hope a petition supporting the proposed Cherry Point coal shipping terminal will let residents’ voices be heard and the community can come together to move the project forward.

Local labor union official and co-chair of the Northwest Job Alliance Chris Johnson was among those who delivered the ten thousand-signature petition to Whatcom County officials yesterday.

The alliance is also touting a poll conducting by the project’s developers that they say shows strong support for the project.

A public meeting on the scope of the environmental review of the terminal will be held at the Ferndale Events Center tomorrow from 3 until 7 p.m.
