Record Rain Swamps Puget Sound Region

SEATTLE, Wash.  (Metro)  -- Western Washington state is taking a beating as several storms pass over the region today leading to record rainfall and area mudslides.

Puget Sound Energy officials now report some 23 thousand people are without power due to the storms.

Sea-Tac airport was reporting record rainfall as of noon Monday, and snow is falling in some areas of the region, leading to a tough afternoon commute.

Several mudslides have also been reported in the area, including one between Seattle and Everett that has led to the cancellation of both local and Amtrak rail service.

More rain is expected well into the Thanksgiving holiday.
