It looks like charter cchools will be coming to our State. Initiative 1240, which will allow up to 40 charter schools to be established in Washington, has won passage.
Lisa Mcfarlane, the State Director of Democrats for Education Reform, says the measure is an historic victory and provides more options for Washington's at-risk students.
She says charter schools are free from some of the regulations that apply to regular public schools, and they don't take money away from other public schools.
The vote currently stands at just under 51% in favor of I-1240.

Opponents of the measure say they aren't conceding defeat until all of the votes are counted.
