Same Sex Couples Can Wed December 9th

OLYMPIA, Wash.  (Metro)  -- Same-sex couples who have waited for years to get married now have a firm date.

Secretary of State Sam Reed says he will certify Referendum 74 into law on December 5, meaning marriage licenses for same-sex couples can be issued as soon as December 6th.

Because of the state's three-day waiting period between getting a license and getting married, the first same-sex weddings can happen beginning December 9.

County clerks are already bracing for a flood of people who intend to be among the first to marry under the new state law.
