County Executive Jack Louws says he will talk to the County Council in a closed-door meeting about using the corner of Labounty and Sunset Avenue in Ferndale as a spot for the jail.
Local political blogger John Servais of www.nwcitizen.com is critical of the proposed location, saying the site near the airport is too far from away from the county courthouse.
He says a site closer to the courthouse in downtown Bellingham would be better for the prisoners, families and attorneys.
Louws and the committee he put together to find a site for the new jail are scheduled to discuss a 'property acquisition' with the council and the sheriff before tonight's council meeting.
Louws says they will open up the idea to public comment on December 4.
