Study Says Large Percentage Of WA Cigarettes Are Contraband

SEATTLE, Wash.  (Metro)  -- A Seattle TV station is reporting that a nationwide study has just found that 36 percent of all cigarettes consumed here in Washington are contraband.

KING-TV is reporting that the study by the Mackinac Center for Public Policy suggests that heavy sin taxes are making tobacco products almost as valuable as illicit narcotics.

Washington's Department of Revenue thinks that estimate is too high.
