Washington Winter Travel Laws Taking Effect Today

OLYMPIA, Wash.  (Metro)  -- As far as Washington's Department of Transportation is concerned, winter starts Thursday.

Studded tires become legal today, and the state now requires that heavy trucks carry adequate tire chains.

DOT is also urging people with smartphones to download its Winter Driving Guide and mobile app.

Ironically, it's too warm right now for snow in the mountains.
