Man Assaults Whatcom Sheriff’s Deputy During Arrest

WHATCOM, Wash. -- A Deming man is in custody after officers say he assaulted a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputy as he was being arrested.

A Sheriff’s spokesman says deputies saw 44-year-old Scott Monaghan driving recklessly on the Mount Baker Highway and chased him onto Marshall Hill road where they found his vehicle abandoned.

They located Monaghan as he was trying to enter a nearby home and arrested him.

He kicked the interior of the patrol car they put him in, and then kicked an officer who tried to subdue him.

The officer wasn’t seriously hurt.

Monaghan was booked into the Whatcom County jail for assault and other charges.
