Locals Face Off With Hurricane Sandy

Some former Bellingham residents are in the path of Hurricane Sandy.

Sehome High School graduate Michelle Lam is going to college in New York City.

Lam says she is prepared for any power outages.

She says people in low-lying areas have been evacuated, and the normally bustling city is completely shut down because of the storm.

Local Red Cross volunteers are also in New York to assist people impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

One nurse from Nooksack and one shelter worker from Bellingham have been sent to help provide food, shelter, supplies and emotional support for people dealing with the storm.
