Tsunami Advisory Cancelled After Big Quake Hits B.C.

San Francisco, CA -- The National Weather Service has cancelled a tsunami advisory for California's North Coast from 80-miles north of San Francisco to the Oregon state line.

The advisory followed Saturday night's 7.7 magnitude earthquake off the coast of British Columbia, about halfway between Vancouver, BC and Juneau, Alaska.

Forecasters says tsunami waves peaked at one-and-a-half feet at Crescent City, just south of the Oregon border.

The NWS says its latest announcement will be the last issued for this event.  There was never any threat to Central or Southern California.
A tsunami advisory for the southern Oregon coast has also been lifted.
