WSDOT Asks Students To Name Giant Tunneling Machine

SEATTLE, Wash.  (Metro)  -- The Washington State Department of Transportation is asking kids around the state to help them come up with a name for its new, five-story tall tunneling machine.

The machine is being built in Japan and will be the biggest of its kind in the world.

The winning entrant will be invited to the dedication ceremony next year in Seattle, before the machine begins digging the replacement tunnel for the waterfront section of the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

The contest is open for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, and each potential name must come with a 200 word or less essay about why the name was chosen.

All entries must be turned in by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13th.
