Pope Canonizes Seven New Saints, Ferndale Boy Attends

FERNDALE, Wash. (Metro)  -- Pope Benedict the 16th held a special ceremony yesterday to canonize seven new saints including one who is credited with saving a Ferndale boy’s life.

Kateri Tekakwitha, the first ever Native American saint, was a 17th century Mohawk Indian woman.

12-year-old Jake Finkbonner’s family prayed to her when he was infected with a deadly flesh-eating bacterium 6-years-ago.

The Finkbonner family attended the ceremony and received communion from the Pope.
