Whatcom Meets 2012 Feed The Need Goal

WHATCOM, Wash. -- We set the goal high for the 2012 "Feed the Need" community food drive, and thanks to your help, we did it!

As of Friday night, more than 301,000 of food were raised for Whatcom County's food banks.

The Cascade Radio Group, Industrial Credit Union and Haggen set a big goal of 300,000 pounds this year.

We raised about 275,000 pounds of food last year.

The week started strong on Monday, but donations kind of tailed off throughout the week.

On Friday morning, we sat at 180,000 pounds.

The possibility of making it all the way to the goal was looking like a long shot, but we crossed the 300,000 pound mark shortly before 7 Friday evening!

Mike Cohen with the Bellingham food bank says they've seen a 10 percent increase in visits over the last year.

He says more than one in six households in Whatcom County regularly uses one of the food banks.
