Senator Proposes Bill Fighting Corruption In Olympia

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- State Senator Doug Ericksen has introduced a bill to stop corruption in Olympia.

The Republican from Ferndale says he wrote the bill after Democratic Governor Chris Gregoire offered Republican Senator Cheryl Pflug a state job one day after the deadline to file for the November election.

Ericksen says what the governor did may not be illegal, but it should be.

His bill would prohibit the governor from appointing a sitting legislator to any paid boards or commissions during election time.

The prohibition would run from one month before the filing date for office until a month after the general election.

Pflug left her senate seat in May. She told KING-TV she took the job for financial reasons.
