Whatcom Authorities Arrest Drug Trafficker

WHATCOM, Wash. -- A Whatcom County drug trafficker who made his wife and kids hide nearly 19 kilos of cocaine has been sentenced to prison.

Forty-year-old Estevan Olmos got the attention of law enforcement in early September last year after driving to the border and dropping off a man who tried to run to Canada.

The next day a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a different car registered to Olmos in Everson.

The driver fled, but the deputy found two gym bags in the car filled with 21 kilos of cocaine, according to federal prosecutors.

Agents also discovered suitcases stuffed with cocaine in a nearby storage unit tied to Olmos.

The owner told agents that a woman and her children moved the suitcases into the storage unit the night before.

Agents arrested Olmos at a casino in Sumas.

He was sentenced on Friday to serve 10 years in prison. He told agents he had been smuggling up to 30 kilos of cocaine two or three times per week for several months.
