Thanks to the recent rain, the Whatcom County Fire Marshal's office has lifted its ban on open burning as of yesterday morning.
Deputy Fire Marshal Wain Harrison says you don't need a permit to light recreational fires or residential fires smaller than four by four feet.
Commercial developers that want to burn up to a 25 by 25 foot pile can get a permit from the Fire Marshal's office.

A permanent ban on open burning remains in effect in the cities of Bellingham, Lynden, Ferndale, Blaine, Everson, Nooksack, Sumas, Birch Bay, Kendall, and the Cherry Point area.
