Canadian Border Agent Shot, Shooter May Have Been Local

BLAINE, Wash. -- A female Canadian border agent was shot and wounded at the Peace Arch border crossing in Blaine yesterday and the suspect may have been a local man.

The man was driving a white van with Washington license plates when he shot the agent in the neck while she was in her booth at the crossing.

He then turned the gun on himself and died at the scene.

He hasn’t been identified and it hasn’t been confirmed if the man was actually from Washington.

The border agent was airlifted to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators don’t know of a motive for the shooting or whether the man knew the border agent.

The crossing was closed for hours during the investigation but one lane is open this morning.
