Sheriff's deputies say 34-year-old Justin Daly told investigators that his landlord, 52-year-old Louis Auriemma, came after him with a steel roofing stake, so he struck Auriemma with a baseball bat and used a chainsaw to cut off the top of his head.
Investigators say a bloody chain saw was found next to the body, but Skagit County Coroner Daniel Dempsy says he's found no evidence a chain saw was used in the attack.
Deputies say Daly, who has a history of violent criminal activity, is being held in the Skagit County jail.
