Stanwood, Fairhaven Bank Robbers May Be One In The Same

STANWOOD, Wash. -- A man shot by police after a bank robbery in Stanwood last week may be the same man who robbed banks in Whatcom and Skagit counties.

The suspect was wearing a mask and a long black wig, and carrying a gun when he entered the Stanwood Key Bank and demanded cash.

A bike was found outside the bank.

Shawn Aiumu with Bellingham Police says the suspect is similar to the man who robbed the Fairhaven Banner Bank twice over the summer.

A man matching the same description also robbed banks in Mount Vernon and La Conner.

The suspected Stanwood robber is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after he was shot by a deputy as he ran to a parking lot across from the bank.

The suspect is reported to be a 54-year-old man from Anacortes. Police haven't released his name.

Investigators are working together to figure out if he's the same man responsible for a rash of similar robberies in the region.
