McKenna, Inslee Debate In Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash.  (Metro)  -- One of the hot topics in last night's gubernatorial debate between Jay Inslee and Rob McKenna was taxes, with each accusing the other of favoring tax increases.

McKenna cited Inslee's opposition to a requirement that any statewide tax increase be approved by two-thirds of the Legislature, a law that Inslee calls "unfair."

Inslee contends that McKenna is in favor of raising property taxes under a complex tax-swap proposal being floated by both Republicans and Democrats as a way to increase school funding.

The debate was held at the Yakima Convention Center.
