Whatcom Middle Student Found Dead

A 13-year-old Bellingham girl died suddenly at home over the weekend and Bellingham Police are investigating.

Lt. Rick Sucee reports the girl was out on Friday night and returned home at about 2 a.m. Saturday and went to bed.
Her mother found her unresponsive at 6 a.m. and called 9-1-1 but responders weren’t able to revive her.

Succee says there are indications she may have consumed alcohol but  there were no obvious signs of what caused her death.

An autopsy is being conducted today.

She was a student at Whatcom Middle School and an e-mail from the principal identifies her as Hazel Phair.

Counseling is being offered to fellow students at the school today.
