Blood Donations Needed Due To Surge In Demand

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Puget Sound Blood Center is urging people to donate after a surge in demand for blood has reduced supplies to emergency levels.

Western Washington’s blood supply has been significantly reduced over the last 10 days by a spike in demand for type O-negative blood.

This has hit the inventory especially hard, resulting in an emergency one-day supply.

Type O-negative blood is considered the universal blood type and can be transfused to any patient suffering from trauma when they are rushed to a hospital.

It takes over 900 donations every day to maintain an operational blood supply in Western Washington.

Those willing to donate can go to the Bellingham Blood Center at Sunset Square, or go to www.psbc.org for more information.
