Damaged Barge Returns To Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, Wash.  (Metro)  -- Shell won't be drilling for oil in the offshore Alaskan Arctic anytime soon after an accident damaged its oil spill containment barge.

Shell announced the decision today in a statement saying "during a final test, the containment dome aboard the Arctic Challenger barge was damaged."

The "Herald" reports Superior Energy Services of Houston has been retrofitting the 38-year-old Arctic Challenger at the company's Bellingham shipyard.
