More Than 200 Fires Continue Burning In Washington State

WENATCHEE, Wash.  (Metro)  -- More than 200 wildfires continue burning in Washington State.

KING-TV reports more than 3,500 fire fighters are working the lines on five large fires.

An evacuation order was issued for the entire town of Liberty in Kittitas County over the weekend, but most residents ignored it.

Many other Eastern Washington communities are suffering from the effects of poor air quality.

Children in a number of schools throughout the area spent their recesses indoors to avoid breathing smoke.

There are currently five fires each burning more than 1,000.

The largest is the Byrd Fire, near Wenatchee, burning nearly 14,000 acres.
