Road Work On South Bound I-5 Will Cause Delays

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Drivers on the freeway in Bellingham can expect 30 minute delays during their commutes next week.

Crews will be replacing the broken concrete panels on southbound Interstate 5 around Samish Way starting Tuesday.

Ric Willand with the Washington State Department of Transportation says those panels have been around since the freeway was first built through Bellingham more than 50 years ago, and have taken a beating from all the heavy traffic.

Crews will close the right lane of southbound I-5 at the Samish Way interchange - exit 252 - around the clock for up to 36 hours starting at 5:30 Tuesday morning.

The Lakeway drive on-ramp to southbound I-5 will also close at the same time.
