PNW Headed For Dry Fall, Warm Winter

WHATCOM, Wash. -- Forecasters say El Nino weather patterns could mean a dry fall and warm winter here in the northwest.

Meteorologist Dennis D'Amico with the National Weather Service says warming temperatures in the Pacific Ocean near the equator should cause forecasts for Whatcom County to shift towards warmer weather.

D'Amico says El Nino should reduce the chance of lowland snow this winter.

He says the "La Nina" pattern that brought cool wet weather for the past two winters is over, and we are expected to

Transition to El Nino weather patterns this month.

The climate prediction center has issued an El Nino watch - a sign that El Nino weather conditions are starting to affect long-term forecasts.
