BC Columnist Apologizes For Canadian Shoppers

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A columnist from British Columbia is apologizing for the impact Canadian shoppers are having on Bellingham.

Daniel Fontaine with "24 Hours Vancouver" newspaper came to Bellingham to see first-hand how Canadian's are affecting the city after a Facebook page demanding a time for American shoppers at Costco gained international media attention.

He says he can now appreciate why some local residents are feeling overrun by their neighbors to the north.

Fontaine says the traffic caused by Canadians near the Bellis Fair Mall "can only be described as atrocious."

He says he found the shopping experience in downtown Bellingham to be much more pleasurable.

Fontaine calls for Canadians to show some decorum when south of the border, and says the city will have to take steps to improve the traffic in north Bellingham if it wants to continue seeing an economic benefit from Canadian shoppers.
