BP Reacts To L&I Citation

BLAINE, Wash. -- An official at BP Cherry Point says they were surprised by yesterday's announcement of a "willful" safety violation by the Department of Labor and Industries.

BP Cherry Point spokesperson Mike Abendhoff says if anybody at the refinery knew there was a problem, they would have taken action.

The refinery has replaced the section of corroded piping where February's fire started.

Abendhoff says they are assessing their procedure for dealing with similar pipes.

The company has until September 13 to appeal the citation.
