Local Woman Helps Victims Of Hurricane Isaac

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A retired nurse from Bellingham's PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center is in the gulf coast to help victims of hurricane Isaac.

Marti Juhli is a volunteer with the American Red Cross.

She and other Red Cross volunteers are opening a shelter in Louisiana for people displaced by the storm.

Juhli is also a member of the Mount Baker Red Cross's disaster action team, which helps local people displaced by fires and floods.

More than a quarter of a million people lost power as Isaac came ashore as a Category 1 hurricane with 80 mile per hour winds yesterday in extreme southeastern Louisiana.

Today is the seventh anniversary of hurricane Katrina's deadly attack on New Orleans.
