WA Senators Seek Presidential Monument Declarations

WASHINGTON D.C.  (Metro)  -- Some federal lands in the San Juans could be headed for a national monument declaration now after Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell asked President Obama for National Conservation Area designation.

The President recently hinted he would issue the order if the Senators asked for it.

Seattlepi.com says local Republicans support the designation, but the Republican-led House Natural Resources Committee is blocking it.
