SYDNEY (Metro) -- Australia's largest airline is canceling orders for nearly three dozen new Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets.
The cancellation came as Qantas posted its first full-year loss since it became a private company 17 years ago.
Qantas lost about $245 million thanks to higher fuel prices and competition.
As of June, Boeing claimed to have orders for 859 Dreamliner aircraft.
Only a handful of the 787s, which are being assembled in South Carolina and Washington state, have been delivered so far.
Boeing claims the 787, which can seat up to 290 passengers, uses composite materials to help increase fuel efficiency by up to 20 percent compared to a similarly-sized 767.
