Whatcom County's Unemployment Rate Rises In July

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (Metro)  -- Whatcom County's unemployment rate is on the rise.

The Washington State Employment Security Department says the jobless rate in July was seven-point-six-percent, up from seven-point-three-percent in June.

Most of the job losses occurred in the public sector.

This year's numbers are still much better than they were one year ago.

In July of 2011, the county's unemployment rate was eight-point-three-percent.
