New Study Prompts Closer Look At Farm Pesticide Safety

SEATTLE, Wash.  (Metro)  -- A new look at the effects of a farm pesticide on children is bringing new requests that the Environmental Protection Agency either restrict or ban its use.

The study concerns chlorpyrifos, which many Washington farmers use.

Dr. Emily Marquez is a staff scientist for the Pesticide Action Network.

The pesticide's manufacturer, Dow AgroChemical, says chlorpyrifos has been studied for decades and prevents major crop losses by controlling pests.

The EPA is scheduled to review chlorpyrifos in 2015.
