Washington Apple Harvest Starts This Week

KENNEWICK, Wash.  (Metro)  -- Apple growers say this year's crop of Washington state apples is expected to be a bountiful one.

Harvest begins this week, with the Golden Delicious variety the first to be picked.

Washington Apple Commission president William Fryhover says the 2012 harvest, which will run through November, is expected to yield the second-largest Washington apple crop on record.

Apple orchards throughout the state produced more than $108 million bushels last year.
