Washington Unemployment Rate Up Slightly

OLYMPIA, Wash.  (Metro)  -- The latest figures from the Washington Employment Security Department show the state's jobless rate was 8.5 percent in July, up from 8.3 percent in June.

That's despite the fact that 5,000 jobs were added statewide last month.

The Employment Security Department says Washington lost 9,700 from its workforce from June to July, but gained 39,000 overall since July 2011.

The rise in the number of jobs in July included large gains in the education sector, along with aerospace products and parts manufacturing.
