Local Blogger Says Low Turnout Skewed Primary Results

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A local political junkie says low voter turnout gave Republicans a big lead over Democrats in the primary races for Washington’s 42nd District representatives.

Republican Vincent Buys is ahead of Democrat Matthew Krogh by about 11 percent, or more than 3,000 primary votes, in the position two race.

Liberal blogger Riley Sweeney predicted before the primary that Krogh would come within "spitting distance" of buys.

But he says older, more conservative voters are more reliable about turning in their ballots during the primary.

Sweeney predicts that Democrats will lead Republicans in the 42nd District when more voters participate in the November general election.

Republican Jason Overstreet is also leading Democrat Natalie McLendon by about 11 percent in the position one primary race.
